| Reception Area: The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors at LaGrange, Illinois, built this 70-foot rolling powerhouse for the Pennsylvania Railroad in January of 1951. The first of 18 E8A passenger units ordered, it was numbered 5808. We acquired the esthetic "covered wagon" from Amtrak in September of 1982 after a two-year search. Extensive rebuilding of the interior and extertior was necessary. |

| Railroad heralds from "fallen flags" decorate the walls in the reception area. A bathroom is immediately left and right of the entrance door in the background. Exhaust ducts from the fans in bathrooms were connected to the original air vents on the roof of the locomotive. The right photo shows the steps leading into the "cab" of the locomotive. Wide aluminum diamond plate steps and inside handrails insure a safe trip in and out of the brakeman and engineer's control room. |
