They’re fun. They’re fearless, and they’re anything but fearsome. They’re our dentists. And before they meet you and your child, you’re invited to click a name and get to know them a little first.
DR. J. BRADLEY KRUSKY
Dr. J. Bradley Krusky D.M.D., M.S
Though he was raised right here in Calgary, Dr. Brad originally hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan. After completing dental school in Boston, Massachusetts, he returned to his birthplace to become a specialist in pediatrics at the University of Michigan, training at Mott’s Children’s Hospital and Hurley Medical Centre. He then repeated his childhood jump to Canada, moving right back home to Calgary in 1999, and straight into practice at the Marda Loop Pediatric Dentistry Station.
Since 2003, Dr. Brad has also been the Executive Director of Dentistry for All, DFA for short. DFA is a humanitarian dental mission traveling and volunteering in some of the most remote and underserved parts of Central America, delivering dental services to people who might otherwise never see a dentist in their lifetimes. Over the course of his tenure, he has helped establish two community clinics, served thousands of people and performed tens-of- thousands of procedures.
When he isn’t at the office or somewhere in the Guatemalan hinterland, you’ll find Dr. Brad at home with his family in Bragg Creek where the hiking, biking and skiing he loves are as close as the back door.
DR. OREST PILIPOWICZ
Dr. Orest Pilipowicz D.M.D., M.S
Born and raised in Winnipeg, and with a name like Pilipowicz, it should come as no surprise that Dr. Orest is a member of the city’s Ukrainian community. What may surprise you is that he was an avid Ukrainian dancer for over 30 years – performing all across Canada and Ukraine in Winnipeg’s Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, as well as in Calgary’s Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Ensemble.
But the dance can’t go on forever, and so, after earning his dental degree from the University of Manitoba (Go Bisons!), Dr. Orest went on to earn his pediatric specialty master’s degree from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). It was here that he met Dr. Brad who convinced him that the lakes of Manitoba had nothing on the mountains of Alberta. The rest, as they say, is history.
Together with his wife and two young children, Dr. Orest now calls Calgary home. If he’s not at the Marda or Lincoln Park offices, you’ll find him cooking, hiking, working out, raising his totally cavity-free kids, and possibly even planning another backpacking tour of Europe.
DR. SHIRIN SHEINY
Dr. Shirin Sheiny D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Shirin was born and raised in Tehran, Iran and is fluent in Farsi. After flying half way around the world and landing in the U.S., she completed a post- doctoral program in pediatric dentistry at the University of Michigan (the Michigan connection – again!), eventually earning a masters in science in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Shirin is now a fellow of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She is married with two kids, Arash and Lily, with whom she loves to travel, hike, ski, and watch movies.
DR. CHOO-KAR KUA
Dr. Choo-Kar Kua D.D.S Cert (Pedo)
Dr. Choo-Kar was born and raised in Alberta, growing up right here in Calgary. After high school, he moved to Toronto where he lived for eight years while attending university and dental school. After graduating, he moved back to Calgary and worked for five years as a general dentist. Though Dr. Choo-Kar was already an accomplished dentist, he felt he could better serve the community by specializing in pediatric dentistry. This led him to New York City for intensive training, and that in turn led him back to Calgary and Chew Chew.
Dr. Choo-Kar now works at Chew-Chew’s Marlborough office in NE Calgary, not far from his home. In his free time he plays hockey, goes for runs, does obstacle racing, weight lifting, archery, and when time permits, video games – COD FTW!
DR. AMIN SALMASI
Dr. Amin Salmasi D.M.D, M.S
Dr. Amin is from Montreal and a graduate of McGill University. Upon completion of degrees in microbiology and immunology, he obtained his dental degree at McGill, then entered the hospital dental residency program at the British Columbia Children’s hospital. He continued his education in the field of pediatric dentistry by pursuing a master’s graduate degree at the University of British Columbia with a concentration on craniofacial sciences.
Dr. Amin enjoys teaching and was a clinical instructor at UBC in the pediatric dental department. He has significant experience treating children with developmental disabilities, has participated in two studies regarding dental care for developmentally disabled patients, and conducted his master’s thesis in the same field.
Dr. Amin also has a keen interest in languages and speaks English, French, Farsi and Turkish (Azeri). In his spare time he enjoys playing soccer and volleyball. He has also participated in several dental missions in countries such as Cambodia and Thailand.
One complimentary bear hug with every check-up. Ok, maybe two.
